Simplicity + Functionality = Elegance

What makes Apple™ products so desirable? Oh, sure, there's the fact that coolness is instantly imputed to its owner, but that wouldn't last long if the products were crap. No, there's something more than just snazzy marketing going on here.

Regardless of your feelings about Apple products, there's a certain something about some products (Apple or otherwise) that just make you happy every time you use them. I submit to you that the certain something is elegance. I don't mean elegant like a svelte woman in a black dress. All products are at their very basic a solution to a problem; and an elegant solution to a problem is one that is both ingenious and simple.

Apple designers spend countless hours figuring out how round a corner should be, and how glossy a screen is. They nit-pick over what item should come first in a menu and exactly what auditory or visual cue a user should receive in response to some action. In other words, they painfully deliberate over every last detail to make it work and feel exactly as you would expect so that you don't notice the product!

You've probably noticed that I'm an Apple fanboy; but more importantly, I'm a design fanboy (and Apple is one of the few big companies that gets it). I'd like to believe that I get it too. This is how catrr is being designed: with meticulous attention to every feature—heck, every pixel. It's not easy, and it might mean that it will be a little while longer until catrr is finally released, but you the user will be happier for it.
